Check your Dollar reservations.

I just checked my Dollar reservations for late August and, using the 234 promo code, the price is now $92 for the week, full sized vehicle. It%26#39;s down another $7 from last week. That%26#39;%26#39;ll buy a poolside cocktail. Cheers!

Robyoleven,

ROBYOELEVEN...............HELP....................do you have the complete code????????? i just tried ';234'; and it wouldn%26#39;t work!!

Hi Folks:

I just tried the code 234 for my trip to LV in late Aug. It just dropped the rate another $10. On the main page go to the pull-down menu ';Specials'; and click on featured specials. Fill in your information and in the promo code box enter 234. That should give you the rate. I%26#39;m not sure how far out that promo code applies as my trip is in a month. Another code to try is 123. That gave me the same rate and it may take you out to a further date. Good luck and let me know how you make out.

Robyoleven

I tried that code and it worked but only for certain classes of cars. It wouldn%26#39;t take it for a luxury car, for example. I think it took the code 234 for full or mid size cars and smaller only.

I just confirmed it. The best deal is the full sized car using the code 234. It%26#39;ll run you $145.26 including taxes for a week, for example. It will not work for luxury or premium cars, and a compact will cost more than the full size car.

Mr. V

You may be correct. I have a full-sized car reserved. While I was typing my last response, I lost the extra $10. When I tried it again it went up $30. All this in the space of 15 minutes. I thought airlines were fickle about their prices.

Robyoleven

Just got this promo from Dollar today:

Get more car for less money with Dollar%26#39;s new ';Lock Low and Go'; program! Go to Dollar.com and lock in a low rate. We guarantee that you’ll get an Intermediate or larger vehicle for less than our regular Intermediate price.

Typed in the rental info without putting in my personal info, and got a rate $35 cheaper for a rental this weekend. Called dollar and they changed my rate without changing my confirmation #.

Checked mine and it came down 83 cents...and I rebooked. I think I may officially be pathetic now. :P

Glad everyone can save a few dollars with the code, even if it%26#39;s for a certain car class. I%26#39;ll keep checking until the time I leave and report back if the rates go down again. Nodogs, I would do that too!

Do Most Hotels Give You Coupons When You Check In?

Last time I was in Vegas, the hotel gave us a sheet of coupons for their hotel, (a buffet coupon, a coupon on a couple of shows at the hotel, etc.)

Is this common they will do this for their own resort, or is that only if they have some sort of promo on?

Do Most Hotels Give You Coupons When You Check In?

We are staying at the Flamingo in December. I wonder if they give out any coupons? Good question.

Do Most Hotels Give You Coupons When You Check In?

It really varies quite a bit. I remember getting coupons at Rio but not at Luxor or MGM. Pretty much everyplace will give you a freebie when you get a player%26#39;s card, though.

No not all casinos give you coupon books.

The Gold Coast and the Orleans do upon check-in.

You will get a coupon book if you join the players club at Imperial Palace.

A lot of the off strip casinos do and some Fremont street casino.

Thanks everyone.

Photos that you never took BUT wish you had

When I come back from any vacation, I always kick myself for those missed pictures. Why didn%26#39;t I get my pic with the shark while snorkeling in Hawaii? OR while chasing alligators in Florida? or eating eggrolls on the Lincoln Memorial steps at 2AM? well you get the idea.

It%26#39;s a first trip for many people on this forum and I for one would like to know what pics that YOU wish you had taken.

you veteran M%26amp;G folks ...where do you wish you would have taken a picture to keep of your friends?

Photos that you never took BUT wish you had

We were with friends at the Hacienda, and Mr. Ducky hit a Royal Flush on video poker...wish we had a picture of that since the Hacienda is now long gone.

Photos that you never took BUT wish you had

hi Ducky,

I have a really little digital camera. Do you think you could sneak a picture of a big win ? THey would take away your camera would they? I would cry!!!!

DOT

Oh I would just ask if you could take a picture. Low said the MGM let him take a picture of his Mother at a machine...just depends on the situation and casino, so I would ask! I am so going to wait impatiently for a trip report from you and wish you lots of luck with the pics and winnings!

I never took pictures of the casnos that are no longer there- Hacienda, Sands, Dunes, etc. Once they are gone- they are gone.

The casinos do want you take pictures of their sportsbook, tables or strangers gambling. They usually have no objections to taking a picture of someone you are with at a machine- especially if they win a jackpot. Nobody was ever around for my jackpots. In fact, I don%26#39;t even bring a camera with me to Vegas anymore. That picture would have made a nice souvenir.

We%26#39;ve only taken a few pictures IN casinos, and have never had any problems. I think they%26#39;re more worried about you taking pics of strangers, not yourself.

the best pic that I ever missed was at breakfast buffet at Dukes in Waikiki. we were sitting outside when a local surfer dude came out of the water took his trunks off to shower the salt off. not more than 50 feet away. AND I had a camera sitting on the table. I was too shocked to pick it up. LOL

well my husband just beckoned and I must go!!!

I wish we had more pictures of US in Vegas. We ahve tons of pictures of the sights but hardly any with us in them. The best shot we ever took was about 2 months before our wedding. We stood in front of a wedding chapel sign and e-mailed it to everyone back home! We let them freak out for a few days before we returned home unmarried! :) We%26#39;re so bad.....

During our annual Labor Day Vegas trip about 20 years ago, I was leaving a Harry Connick Jr. show and told my buddy to ';check out the blond. She%26#39;s with the guy in the Hawaiian shirt';. My buddy said, ';You mean the blond with Andre Agassi?'; Andre had also attended the show with some hottie, and I couldn%26#39;t take my eyes off her long enough to notice him. I guess this is a trend for me, since I was at a Frank Sinatra show in Cincinnati about 17 years ago and the exact same thing happened with Johnny Bench. I walked within inches of Johnny and his wife while getting to our seats and certainly noticed her. I didn%26#39;t realize she was with Johnny Bench until Frank introduced Johnny and his bride to the crowd during the show.

glad to here about casino pics AND i never thought about celebrity sightings. how cool.

Wish we would have gotten pics of Frontier when we were there in Febuary. I think all we got was a pic of the sign. Guess we will try to take some pics of what%26#39;s left when we get back in September. Guess you never know what will close next.

  • Tunica question for Oldbenz (Sorry for posting on LV forum)

I%26#39;ll be visiting LV in a couple of weeks, but I saw your question about using PC cards at other locations, and was hoping you could address a couple of questions about Tunica.

We all know its not Vegas (and noplace else ever will be) but I hope to drive over to Tunica sometime this fall and was wondering if you could tell me:

    - Is there enough casino-competion there for the general payback percentages to be somewhere close to LV? The research I have seen indicates that Nevada in general, and LV in particular has pretty much the hightest general payback for gamblers, and was just wondering if there are enough establishements in Tunica to create anything close to a similar situation.

    - Are the casinos there new enough to have decent ventilation systems, that get rid of cigarette stench? They look like they are fairly new, for the most part, but was hoping to get a first-hand opinion on the air quality inside.

    - Generally speaking, do you recommend Tunica, for those times when a trip to Sin City is not in the cards?

Thanks for any information you might have!

Tunica question for Oldbenz (Sorry for posting on LV forum)

We%26#39;ve been to Tunica a half-dozen times so will give you my take even though Oldbenz knows more than me...

It is fun for us to go there and meet our friends but usually go in the fall and spring since I can get the heat and humidity right here in Kansas in the summer.

The Fitz rooms all smell like smoke (well we haven%26#39;t stayed there for at least 3 years due to the smell so don%26#39;t if that has been fixed yet), but we haven%26#39;t had a problem with the casinos or rooms smelling too much like smoke.

We have had good luck signing up for email specials and getting 2 nights and 4 buffets for $99 (Sun-Thurs) at the Gold Strike...think it%26#39;s owned by MGM.

The casinos are in the 3 pod areas, and you have to drive to each area since they are too far apart to walk. But you don%26#39;t have to drive to each casino within the pod area, so you can walk between several of them at a time.

I am not sure about the payouts but think we have won there as much as in Vegas...which isn%26#39;t a whole lot, but we go to have fun and not make money so can%26#39;t tell you for sure on that one. I think we%26#39;ve actually had better luck there than in Reno.

It is only about 30 minutes south of Memphis, so we always go there for our Elvis fix. Tunica also now has a riverboat attraction that is fun to ride if you haven%26#39;t ever been on a paddlewheeler.

We have also been to Biloxi and Gulfport when we%26#39;ve made a trip to New Orleans and have enjoyed those casinos too, so we enjoy our casino trips....just go with the attitude that it is not Vegas and you%26#39;ll not be disappointed.

  • Least Smoky Casinos?

My GF and I will be going to Vegas in Aug. but she is really sensitive to the smell of cigarette smoke. Can you recommend which casinos have the best ventilation, which are least smoky? Thanks!

    Least Smoky Casinos?

Stick with the newer places... is she sensitive to perfumes though... a lot of the casinos pump in perfume.

    Least Smoky Casinos?

Stick with the newer casinos, but some casinos also pump in perfume, is she sensitive to perfumes too?

    Sorry my computer burped!

Overall, Pook%26#39;s correct, the newer places have the best ventilation. However, if some sits down right next to you and lights up, it won%26#39;t make much difference. You%26#39;re going to be breathing their smoke. The older %26amp; smaller ones tend to be the smokiest ones. I would not recommend Bill%26#39;s, for example. I can take it for short periods, but then my eyes start to water. The heavy perfume can come from the patrons, too, I%26#39;ve noticed, not just the pumped-in scents!

There used to be a smoke-free casino (no hotel) just off the strip but it closed several visits back. Too bad - I also don%26#39;t like the smoke. My DH can%26#39;t stand it and he really has to get out after a couple hours. Keep moving if smoke smokes close to you just move along.

    Good Luck,

    CS

Yep, Shooter, that was Silver City. It closed in 1999, sat empty and boarded-up for years. It is now the Silver City Plaza, a strip mall with a Walgreen%26#39;s, among other stores. The old Stardust used to be right across the street, now both are history.

my sister is really sensitive to smoke and has always had good luck with paris. its newer and the ceilings aren%26#39;t super low so that helps too.

    Oh boy, here we go

In one corner the Non smokers

and in the other corner the chimnys....err smokers

    Round 1

    Ding Ding Ding

No battle from me. All I can is, it must be tough to be a non-smoker in a Vegas casino.

It%26#39;s probably tough being such an angry person as well.

best way from airport to strip?

how do most of you get from the airport to the strip? cab, shuttle, etc? any pros or cons to these options?

best way from airport to strip?

The shuttle buses are a good inexpensive option. I don%26#39;t like taxis, ever since our first ever arrival in LV, where the ever-so-chatty driver took us the long way round, ending up with a $45 bill. We now rent a car every time, so use the excellent rental facility shuttle buses.

best way from airport to strip?

I think most people just take a cab. It is probably the quickest way and it might be the cheapest way if there are two or more of you. The lines might be long but they usually move rather quickly.

The shuttles may seem like a bargain if you are alone but they can be time wasters. You have to wait until the driver feels there are enough passengers and then you waste more time dropping people off at their hotels. Most people like to quickly get to their hotel and start their vacation- no wasted time on a bus. People have reported problems using them to return to the airport-they either came late or not at all.

Some people opt for a Limo. There are some available at the airport or you can reserve a limo before you arrive so they can help you with your luggage. They charge by the hour and you can then stop off at a supermarket to get snacks and liquor cheaply and you might still have time to take a tour of the strip.

Shuttles can be cheap but they aren%26#39;t efficient because they wait to load the whole bus before departing and they may stop at several places before your hotel. Since they charge by the person, its cheaper sometimes to take a cab, which charges per ride. Its also faster to go by cab. The third option is limo which isn%26#39;t cheaper but its certainly more fun. They can be hired at the airport. Fourth option is car rental which is smart if you go offstrip or take a lot of ccabs.

The cab to most places on the strip is btw only $10-15, the shuttle is $6 or more PER Person and as they said, makes you wait until the shuttle fully fills up before it leaves and then stops at other hotels.

I would take a cab. Last year I went through this and ended up taking a cab and it worked out perfect. From the airport to the Flamingo it was like $7 plus tip.

I%26#39;ve tried them all. My preferences are in this order:

    1. Rental car

    2. Taxi

    3. Limo

    4. Hitchhike

    5. Walk

I%26#39;ll never take the shuttle again. Inconvenient, uncomfortable, and wastes a lot of time.

    Bare and Go pools ?

I noticed that the Bare pool @ Mirage and the Go pool @ Flamingo charge to get in. If you are not staying @ these hotels can you pay to get in and has anyone done this. Vegas.com said it was $10 for women $20 for men(Go pool) and free to hotel guest. My wife and I are staying @ Planet Hollywood and hate the pools there and thought this would be a good option. Right now I have a one night reservation @ Bellagio so we can use the pool for a couple of days. Are there any other pools that charge a fee to get in.

    Bare and Go pools ?

    bump

    Bare and Go pools ?

The pools that charge admission are topless pools. The pools of the casino you%26#39;re staying at should be free of charge.
