Helpful TA Hotel Reviews?

Why is it that when someone writes a lengthy TA review but it has some negative feedback, people vote that it is not helpful, but when they are positive reviews, they are helpful? I see this happen especially with the beloved places like the Wynn.

I personally liek to hear both sides, but maybe perceive it as someone just venting?

Helpful TA Hotel Reviews?

Me too.

Helpful TA Hotel Reviews?

Depends on why they are complaining.People complain over getting smoking rooms,or twin beds vs king bed when they were told at time of booking that these are just requests and not guaranteed.

People complaing about dining prices/choices when a bit of research beforehand would have told them this,

If people complain about something that should not have happened, dirty rooms bad service etc.then I will take it serious and compliment the review.

Also the way a hotel responds to a problem is just as important.

In most cases people don鈥檛 like to hear the truth, they would rather hear positive then negative. Knowing who is writing the review or the circumstances is probably more important then the review itself.

I actually like reading the negative reviews better. More entertaining I guess. I usually look at the dates of all the reviews I have read and if the negatives are all about the same thing..say a customer service issue and there is not a more recent group of positive reviews to show that the problem is being fixed I tend to stay away.

You can see sometimes a person might have just run into a surly employee having an off day but the rest of their stay was just fine. Sometimes you can spot the people that just like to whine.

I didn%26#39;t realize until I started becomming a forum junkie that most people don%26#39;t post reviews unless they have had a negative experience with someplace. I now will have to post my positives...not just the negatives.

Sometimes people like to disregard the posts of someone who joined TA the first time to give a bad review. Actually I pay attention to those because the experience was significantly bad enough to motivate the individual to find a way to express their dissatisfaction and bad experience. That%26#39;s actually how I got started using TA, having read reviews here from Yahoo searches, and then having a bad hotel experience myself and wanting others to know, and knowing a plakce to do that.

If I am researching a place, I find the reviews helpful if I read 50 or more. I get concerned if I see the same issues mentioned over and over. For megaresorts, you can figure out what rooms to request in what parts of the hotel.

I vote unhelpful any review that complain about coffee, old places being old, expensive places being expensive, five star reviews that are full of complaints, things that I know to be false from personal experience, or complaints that are too dramatic to be true. I think some negative reviews are voted as unhelpful because some expectations of the traveler aren%26#39;t realistic and their review reflect poor planning on their part.

I actually found and joined this forum by writing a positive review of South Point (South Coast at the time). I like to read boths sides of a review. But yes, I tend to try and read between the lines of the negative reviews. Sometimes you can see if they are piling on the bad stuff because the hotel didn%26#39;t please them. Some people tend to rant when angry....if they wait and write a very good comprehensive report, and I%26#39;ve seen others that agree, then there%26#39;s a problem with that place.

I%26#39;ve never clicked that a review wasn%26#39;t helpful. But I have clicked when I felt it was...

I saw a person complaining about a hotel in Puerto Rico because there were too many Puerto Ricans around. When I see an outrageous complaint like that, I vote that as not helpful. I do the same if a person states things I know are not true, posts a trip report instead of a hotel review, or posts a one-sentence review like, ';It was nice, will go back!!!!';

lol, very good point mama.... haven%26#39;t seen those yet...I%26#39;d click no help, too!

I appreciate reviews with negative comments as long as they seem reasonable to me. Too often, people seem to blame the hotel for things that happen on their trip that having nothing to do with the hotel. For example, my flight was delayed 3 1/2 hours and my luggage was missing, so by the time I got to MGM all they had left for me was a crappy room. But I didn%26#39;t let that sour me on the hotel because it really wasn%26#39;t their fault.
