What's with these thunderstorms?

For those of you who experienced these in Vegas lately, are they the all day kind or the typical summer ones where they are over in a little while.

Hate to take a bathing suit that takes up so much space if I%26#39;m not going to need it.

It strikes me that if its tipping down with rain, then a bathing suit might be the most sensible thing to wear? After all, it%26#39;s designed to get wet ... :-)

Just how big are you that your suit would take up too much space???? Just bring the suit and if the weather holds out - you can hit pool. Not sure when you%26#39;re going - but you know all the weather sites... just check the 10 day forecast.

Have fun

Yes, I do know about weather.com and obviously, I was joking about my swim suit. I see that thunderstorms are expected everyday that I am there. Just wondering what the experience of those that have been there lately with the same forecast has been.

From 15 years of summer experience in Vegas- the thunderstorms come in quickly and leave just as quickly. This is the monsoon season- you can be hit with thunderstorms, flash flooding and hailstorms but if you are caught in them you just duck into the nearest casino and wait it out. Just avoid IP garage- it is prone to flooding. Definitely bring that bathing suit- you are definitely going to need it.

I was there last week. Usually it was clear until late afternoon and they only lasted a short time.

The summer storms I have experienced in Vegas are the typical summer storms that come up in the evenings and don%26#39;t last very long. They can be very spectacular with hugh streaks of lightning.

They are called ';monsoons'; and they happen in the summer.

Not very frequent, but usually w/lightining.

Good idea to stay out of the pool!

damama - I had hoped you were joking, but on this site - you cant take anything for granted. When we were there in August last year there were a couple times it rained and it was over pretty fast. Once we just walked inside and waited about 20 minutes and it was sunny again.

That%26#39;s what I figured and was hoping. The last time we were there in August, it didn%26#39;t rain at all and I actually don%26#39;t think I have ever had rain in Vegas.

I%26#39;ve seen your pic damama and I can%26#39;t imagine your suit is big at all, but if it%26#39;s a problem, pack a bikini.

Desert thunderstorms (known as monsoons) are notoriously hard and fast. It rains so hard in such a short time, it%26#39;s not unusual for streets (including the Strip) to turn into small rivers. If you%26#39;re driving, DO NOT CROSS SWIFT WATER !!! Many people are killed every summer in the southwest from doing this. If you%26#39;re in the desert driving, be careful of washes (dry stream beads) and roads that cross them. The water comes down these washes like a flash flood and can carry a truck away much less a car.

Fortunatley most of these storm last a half hour or less, so they really are just a small bother in your day.

Hope that helped D.
