Bringing the kids to Vegas - Whats the problem?

I have read the comments to the post below about bringing children to Vegas. Yes, I know Vegas has the reputation of ';Sin City'; but I don%26#39;t understand why families shouldn%26#39;t be encouraged to go there. I, along with most decent parents (I%26#39;m hoping) will not be bringing my kids into the casinos to sit around in smoke-filled bars. Nor will I have them out until the midnight hours walking around with the intoxicated people.

I just don%26#39;t understand. Everyone keeps saying to go to Disney World. Disney isn%26#39;t the only place to bring children, you know. Our family has been there numerous times and don%26#39;t want to go back for a few years. We would like to vacation at new places, and Vegas happens to be one of those destinations on our list.

I really would like to know what the problem is. I%26#39;m not asking anyone to babysit my children. I%26#39;m not asking people to behave a certain way because my kids are around. We will be going for a long weekend (4 days) and as I%26#39;ve read from previous posters, there is plenty to do and see there without having to loiter around the casinos all day long.

What%26#39;s the problem people?

Bringing the kids to Vegas - Whats the problem?

No problem, just keep your eye on them %26amp; dont let them out of your sight.

Bringing the kids to Vegas - Whats the problem?

Irresponsible parenting (in many cases) is the problem. The other thread is pretty tame so far. Do a search for kids in vegas, and you%26#39;ll get a better idea of what people have problems with.

Which means you can%26#39;t go onto the casino floor, you can%26#39;t gamble, and you can%26#39;t stay out late, other than that you can do anything.

Well, 12thgear, you CAN stay out late, but then you%26#39;re part of the problem...

Vegas is a place where adults go to let loose and do things they normally wouldn%26#39;t do at home. That%26#39;s why they leave their kids at home to have some adult time. It is annoying dodging strollers and little ones while walking the strip. I hate going to grocery stores anymore because parents don%26#39;t have control over their kids, screaming, crying, yelling, it%26#39;s annoying. I certainly don%26#39;t want to go to Vegas to get annoyed. You really think the kids enjoy Vegas? Do you think it%26#39;s fair to hull kids around in 112 degree heat? Go some where where the kids can enjoy themselves.

Vegas is really an adult place. Everything there centers around gambling, alcohol and XXX activities.. It%26#39;s not an appropriate environment for children. I bring my kids on vacation ALL the time. We go to Myrtle Beach, Florida, etc... But they don%26#39;t go to Vegas. Just like I don%26#39;t bring them to R rated movies.

All of Vegas is one big bar. People walk around with open containers. There are billboards with mostly naked women. I wouldn%26#39;t want to have to explain it all to my kids.

';I, along with most decent parents (I%26#39;m hoping) will not be bringing my kids into the casinos to sit around in smoke-filled bars. Nor will I have them out until the midnight hours walking around with the intoxicated people. ';

The problem is you seem to be the only person who knows not to do this stuff. Parents have issues keeping their kids out of the casinos, feeding them at a decent hour and putting them to bed. Add in the general parenting issues of failing to try to teach proper public behavior to kids and expecting everyone else to think their kid%26#39;s acting out is cute. It all sums up in frustration for the adults who come to gamble and get their drink on.

I appreciate that Disney maybe boring but, jeez, there are more than one or two vacation destinations in the country and most of them are much more family friendly than Vegas. When did it become necessary to take your family on such huge trips every year, anyway?

I will say this, if the only way you can go to LV is with your kids then bring the kids. But if you can leave them with Grandma or a responsible famly member then you can go to LV and have a blast with no limitations.

I can see bringing kids if you get a free business trip. But, it would not be a place I would choose as a planned family trip.

There is so many other places to go since Vegas does not really cater to kids making it harder on parents and the kids.

When I was young, my parents took me on vacation to (gasp) national parks. They taught me to appreciate nature, learn to enjoy quiet times, and how to be eco-friendly. Have the Nat%26#39;l Parks closed? Is there really nowhere left besides Vegas and Disney that a family can vacation. Last time I looked there were parks in just about every state. How about an eduacational tour? There are plenty of historical sites out there too. And, these are usually way more economical, also. Camping doesn%26#39;t cost much. Small motels that line the tourist areas are normally priced for the family budget. Come on people, there has got to be somewhere more age appropriate to take the tykes!

Perhaps a little thought and planning could go a long way, or is that why parents go to Vegas? So that they don%26#39;t have to plan to entertain the kids? If you have to justify yourself to a bunch of strangers, you probably already have your own doubts.
