Rider bets in BJ

Has anyone placed a ';rider bet'; or ';back bet'; behind another player at the BJ tables in Vegas? Is it generally allowed? Frowned upon?

Thanks

Rider bets in BJ

I understand this is a common betting practice in Europe but, this practice is not allowed in Las Vegas. I have never seen it done in my 100+ trips to various casinos throughout Las Vegas, Reno and Tahoe.

I%26#39;ve never seen it in LV..... or even heard of it for that matter.......what is it?

Really? I have done this in Connecticut, I don%26#39;t know why they wouldn%26#39;t allow it in Vegas, though come to think of it I%26#39;ve never done it there. What would be gained by prohibiting this?

Stratton....what is it? If someone else at the table has a good hand you put a bet on them or something?

Foxwoods is where I 1st heard of this type of bet. It%26#39;s betting on one of the other player%26#39;s hands. That%26#39;s why I wonder if it%26#39;s only a CT thing or is it done in Vegas as well?

It%26#39;s illegal in Vegas. The only people who can bet are those sitting at the table. Definitely seen it in Conneticut. Not sure about A/C

You place a bet like you would make a tip for the dealer in LV. Naturally, you have to make the bet before the cards are dealt.

Yes. You put a chip down behind the circle of the player whose hand you%26#39;re backing. You win or lose along with them. You don%26#39;t even have to be seated at the table.

When I have done this, if the player is someone I don%26#39;t know I always ask if they mind, because when people have backed my play I always feel pressure to make sure I don%26#39;t lose their money! LOL!

underpar, where are you, I know you must know the answer to this one.

Interesting......do you have to place the bet before any of the cards are dealt? (Like you%26#39;d be going on a ';hunch';?) Or do you place it after you see everyone%26#39;s cards and the dealer top card?

No, absolutely before the cards are dealt! Like any other bet in BJ. My goodness, betting after the deal would NEVER be allowed! We%26#39;d all be rich!
