Walking the Strip

We are staying at PH later in August and have shows/meals booked at:

MGM

Mandalay Bay

Treasure Island

Wynn

How long will it take to stroll to each of these hotels from PH and is the heat likely to kill us on the way?

If walking is out of the question are taxis readily available or would we be waiting for longer than the walk would take us?

Thanks.

Walking the Strip

From PH I would definitely get taxis (easily available at any hotel) to each of these. Too far to walk to any if you%26#39;ve got a show or restaurant reservation.

Strolling around when you%26#39;ve got nothing specific is fine but not when you%26#39;ve got plans and want to arrive fresh.

Walking the Strip

most likely the heat WILL kill you ;)

but you can stop along the way to pop into each and every casino to cool off and maybe grab a drink. i really suppose it depends on your tolerance for HOT, DRY HEAT.

we were there at the end of april this year, when the city went through a crazy heatwave. it got up to almost 100F some days, and it was ridiculously hot for us - and apparently it gets even HOTTER in the summer months in LV. you could definitely walk to MGM, it%26#39;s probably a good 10mins away, walking slowly in the heat. but the others maybe wind up being just too far for you to handle it.

cabs are always readily available at each hotel - the only time i%26#39;ve seen loooong wait lines for taxis are in the late evenings on the weekends.

You can probably walk to MGM. Will need a taxi to the others. Just find the taxi stand at PH and get in line. The lines usually move very fast and taxis are usually lined up at all the hotels.

I agree. August is not the time to walk the strip. Once you get to the strip, walking to close hotels is doable but drink lots of water.

This depends on the type of person you are. My wife and I try to go to Vegas every August and walk everywhere. One year we had a show to see at Wynn and we were staying at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay. We trammed it down to Excalibur, walked to MGM, monorail down to the Flamingo, walked to Venetian for supper, then walked down to Wynn. The return trip we walked all the way back.

I guess my point is...some people don%26#39;t like to walk (which is fine) and some people do. If you are a walking type of person you can easily walk to these places (I%26#39;d hit the tram from Excalibur to Mandalay Bay though).

Shef - One thing we learned on our last tripwas that you can only get a cab from hotels taxi stands. We went for the $4.95 Ellis Island meal and didn%26#39;t want to walk back. We ended up walking almost all the way back to the strip anyway - It%26#39;s not that far a walk, we had just had enough of it.

So just know that if you start out walking and change your mind, you will have to walk to the hotel taxi line to catch a cab. We really had trouble finding the taxi line at the MGM, no trouble at nyny. Just kind of scout out the place so you know how long it might take you to get to the line and then if it%26#39;s rush hour, etc... Leave time to arrive at your destination in time for your reservation.

Cheers,

CS

I don%26#39;t use taxis, much prefer to see the strip walking or from the monorail but it%26#39;s easy to get a taxi so no worries there. What I suggest is to head to the area of your reservation well before it%26#39;s time and find something to do there instead of waiting until the last minute.

If you give yourself the time, you can catch the monorail at Paris, take it to MGM. Once you are at MGM, you just walk across the walkway to NYNY and take the free monorail to Mandalay.

You can also take the main monorail back to and walk through the casinos to get closer to TI. The buses are slow but have a/c, so that%26#39;s an option too. I%26#39;m never in a huge rush in Vegas so I like taking the time to sight see on my way to different places.

The free tram to Mandalay Bay is from Excalibur, not NYNY

Get a bus pass for $5.00 per day.... it%26#39;s unlimited use from the time you 1st use it for 24 hours!
