LasVegas Hotels w/kids

I%26#39;m concerned about bringing my kids to Las Vegas after reading all these negative posts.. I had no idea and thought Vegas was more kid friendly than has been posted....

We%26#39;re going in June. Need to stay 2 nights in Vegas on the front end, then traveling 2 or 3 nights to Zion, Bryce, GCanyon North, then back, with 2 or 3 more nights in Vegas area. Any suggestions on where to stay? I thought it would be fun to stay dead center-strip on the front end of our trip (maybe the Flamingo for the pool?) and am now thinking, based on posts, that we should just find a great but more remote resort away from the stip for the tail end. Any suggestions? Or any where else we should consider traveling to, to avoid staying in vegas much at all? Are there any really wonderful huge resorts even way out from Vegas that would have lots to do for our 3 active boys?

Suggestion would be plan one stay at Circus-Cirucs and the other at Excalibur. Both are geared toward children. Circus-Circus is more center strip, where as Excalibur is by MGM, NYNY and Tropicana. Both good locations, and by staying at both, your kids will have a blast and it provides you timely access to most all sites on the strip.

I have a nine-year old - and these ';horror'; stories you hear don%26#39;t reflect experiences I have encountered with her -

Circus Circus might be geared toward kids, but I wouldn%26#39;t stay there for free or recommend it to anyone. It%26#39;s a dump and has been for at least the past 20 years. Excalibur is also kinda low end. The Orleans might be a good place for your family as it is very reasonably priced for the quality of rooms, has a nice pool, movie theatre and you can get to your rooms easily without wnadering thru a huge casino. Mandalay Bay might also be a good choice because of their pool and waterpark area, but it will cost $$$. Good luck!

Look into Orleans. They have an arcade, bowling alley, movie theaters, very good inexpensive food, pool, large clean inexpensive rooms, off the strip, and highly rated. It is family friendly.

How old are your boys?

Hogandi,

Don%26#39;t worry about all the negaative post about bringing kids. There will be lots of kids there. I don%26#39;t recall seeing anything bad that kids would be harmed by. I will be taking my 10 and 14 year old boys in June. We are stayin at the Luxor because of the egypt theme. As long as you don%26#39;t plan on hanging out on the strip all night long (people who do that with kids are CRAZY) you will have a good time staying on the strip with your family.

I%26#39;ve read so many good things about the Orleans hotel, I can%26#39;t wait to visit it while I%26#39;m there.

You should be able to research kid friendly venues on this or other sites like cheapovegas.com, etc.. A lot of hotels have whole programs set up to keep kids entertained for eight hours a day, but I will say that, between the guys handing out porn flyers on every corner and the liberal public drunkeness laws, I don%26#39;t think of Vegas as a ';family destination';. Having said that, I also know that my 7 year old son would really have agood time there with all the rides and shows and arcades and such. So, I probabaly did not help much, but I think it really boils down to a judgment call about what you want to do on your trip.

Thanks to all for your comments.

Our boys are 15, 12, and 7 and even the 7 yr old is really not into ';younger kid'; things. I%26#39;ll check on the Orleans idea and maybe the Luxor. I thought they%26#39;d really love the Star Trek stuff, the Treasure island show, and any great pool/water-park attractions. I%26#39;d love to find a resort with mini-golf, basketball, etc.

I%26#39;ve heard the pool at the Flamingo is tops.

Still wondering if there is a resort near Lake Mead area we should stay at for a few nights (they love water sports and fishing).

Again thanks for all the input and I welcome any more thoughts any ofyou have...--hogandi

Oh--forgot to mention that we tend to be a family that likes our space (my 15 yr old is quite tall and really needs his own bed)--so we%26#39;re also trying to find spot that might have larger rooms or ideally a suite-set-up (but I know that%26#39;s tough). Although we%26#39;d love a good deal, we%26#39;re willing to pay a bit more for spacious, clean accommodations. I appreciate any and all comments!!! We just found out we can use our Hilton points to book at the Embassy Suites near the convention center--anyone have any experience with that area? thanks, Hogandi

I think you will have a good time. Can%26#39;t wait for the trip report!

If you are there to spend together as a family, and not for heavy gambling, go to the ORLEANS, off strip. With your car u can go anywhere to see everything. all casinos have huge parking areas. lots for the kids to see an do as a family.

more than u have time for. select wisely.

for sure-- Hoover dam tour., Red Rock Canyon--west of town.

may see ';';wild Burros.';';
