Comments on the Atomic and East Fremont Street stroll.

As the sound of slot machines fade into memory, I am back at work in the land of limited Internet access. It was a true pleasure meeting the folks at the Atomic. I trust the Atomic and the rest of the walk down east Fremont meet your low expectations and that you all enjoyed the trip. We should all be honored as the bar fight is a pretty rare event at the Atomic these days. Weren’t the local patrons and soiled doves “interesting”? I know some wanted to leave the Atomic sooner than others but some wanted to meet the owners. Unfortunately Joe was not around but you did meet Stella. Scott of the Atomic is working on the Tee shirts we talked about after you expressed interest.

Many enjoyed the cheap drinks and gaming at he Western. We saw a guy at the roulette table with a large stack of chips. I estimated several hundred bucks worth but then I remember where I was and they turned out to be quarter roulette chips maybe $20.00 or $30.00 bucks worth. I am told that the Western is no longer renting rooms and trying to make it as just a low budget casino.

The El Cortez is looking better and the Gold Spike even looked a little cleaner too bad more folks did not enjoy the hotdogs there.

Sadly I fear the days of the rough and tumble east Fremont are quickly giving way to more pedestrian pursuits so enjoy it while you can.

Hey chitown....glad to see your Atomic stroll turned out good and wish I could have been there. Mr. Ducky would have enjoyed that trip, and we also thought the downtown was looking more snazzy last month when we were there.

So are you going to take t-shirt orders?

Comments on the Atomic and East Fremont Street stroll.

Hey chitown!! I have been waiting to hear from someone in your crew about how things went!! Looking forward to reading everyone%26#39;s TR%26#39;s! Wish I could have been there......

Scott of the Atomic will (hopfully) be selling the tee shirts, not me.

The Tee shirts will say something simple like ';I got Bombed at the Atomic'; with a mushroom cloud etc.

Oh I LOVE it...and do you think I can get one when we are there in Oct?

I just don’t know.

Well at the very least...we are going to stop by there to check it out since we%26#39;ve never gone inside!

oooo I want one too!!!

Sunday Fred the Lady and myself were met by Loomis in a rental car, a quick trip to the Golden Nugget by 11:00 am, thanks to VIP check in we got our south tower rooms right away It was all that we asked for, on a high, non smoking floor with a strip view. The Strip is pretty far away and the view is steadily being blocked by high rise buildings so you sort of have to look around the buildings a little to see the strip. The room was great as always Loomis and I shot down to the pool while the Lady napped and Fred unpacked.

The pool is great. The 3 story water slide is the best way to enter it. The shark tank had many other kinds of fish in it as well and was fascinating. Plenty of lounge chairs in the pool area including some floating ones on kind of a shelf for sunning There is an area that s out of the sun as well. Drinks were 4 bucks for a beer and 6 to 8 for a mixed drink but they were all good. Eventually we brought cans and plastic bottles of drink to stretch the budget. No problems, just no glass allowed, which makes perfect sense.

Off to Tony Roma’s for the Prime Rib Special then off to the Vue where we all meet up and off we went at 6:00. The trip east is described in other posts but I believe that a good time was had by all. The Atomic where some of the locals tried to be more friendly than some, including me since I know some of them, were comfortable with. On to the Western for low budget gaming. The El Cortez for my tall Sam Adams in a gold rimmed glass. The Gold Spike where sadly I was the only one to enjoy the mystery meat hotdog. We lost a few folks along the way. They said they were going back to their rooms but who knows, anyway at about 1:30 we the few survivors ended up at Binion’s coffee shop with the graveyard special breakfast.

We were moving a little slow on Monday morning. I must remember that I am getting too old to drink like that. We lay around at the pool in the sun like a reptile for a while. On towards evening we drove to the Strip. Parked at Paris and checked it out as we walked through. We walked the Strip from Paris to TI then back along the other side and saw the Fountains and the Volcano, tried to see the Sirens but it was just too darn crowded. We drank and played at a few of the low budget places, O’Shea’s etc. Then a storm came through and it began to rain for the first rain in like 3 months. Oil had soaked into the asphalt and as the rain fell, oil rose from the streets and it was like walking and driving on ice.

Tuesday more of the same pool time, we drank at the Atomic, played at the El Co that afternoon, under Fremont Street Experience that evening..

Wednesday, a morning Deuce trip to Mandalay Bay and then headed back north so Fred could see the new casinos. He got the idea pretty soon and after a short visit to the Wynn we took a taxi back to the GN. As planned, Scott of the Atomic joined us at the pool with his daughter and we all had a good time. There were a fair number of kids at the pool but it was not too crowded.

Thursday we packed, then gambled at the Golden Nugget, the off to the airport for a bumpy ride home.

With the trip east and the ability to enjoy the resort like pool area at the Golden Nugget, it was my best trip yet.

Glad to hear you had a good time! Did you try to slow yourself down when you went through the tunnel on the slide so you could actually see the sharks as you went wizzing by?

Did Loomis make it to check out the new nightclub/lounge at Binion%26#39;s?

Did you check out the progressive amount on my Sphinx machine at the GN? It%26#39;s already calling me to drop more money next week while I%26#39;m there....LOL

How was the mystery meat hotdog? =)

We%26#39;ve only been to the Western once (I think), so what is the minimum bet on BJ and do they offer Pai Gow?
