Poker Help

Hi all. im leaving for Vegas on 08/07 thru 08/11. And im so excited! I wanted to say thanks to all the ppl here who have helped me with my questions over the past 3 months. The wealth of info here is amazing.

I do have one more question though, I like Poker. I%26#39;ve been playing on-line for about a year now. I feel pretty confident in my abilities, but I have no experience playing against human opponents in the flesh. So im kinda afraid that i will look stupid or do something wrong at the table. Are there any tables for ppl like me, just starting off and dont wanna play big money? Is there a particular casino that I should go to?

Yes, absolutely. One of the best places to go for a beginner is Excalibur. You can take a free lesson weekdays at 2 PM, and then start out with a 2-4 limit game. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and they are very patient with beginners. I was in exactly your position not long ago and I had a good experience there.

pokerface durham .... depending on where you are staying, lots of poker rooms offering lot limits at 1/2, 2/4, 3/6 and so on.

I was in your situation a couple of years ago, wanting to play, but, did not know where. After reading a couple of msg boards, I selected Imperial Palace. Went scouting and like what I saw. I pretended, although, I know basic rules of poker, that I was interested in their daily session on ';Hold%26#39;em Poker';. A female gathered everyone interested around the poker table and offered free lessons on ';Hold%26#39;em';. After the session was over, she offered those interested in playing in a real live ';Hold%26#39;em'; game to move over to the $1/$2 table to begin with poker dealers behind you available to answer any questions and help. I took the offer and went to play my first ';Hold%26#39;em Poker'; game. I had fun and was making a few dollars.

No sooner, IP offered a ';Hold%26#39;em Poker Tournament';. I asked what it was about, was told that it was a tournament as you see on TV WSOP. I asked what the cost was and was told it was a buy in (I don%26#39;t remember how much it was --- probably around $50). I looked at my stack of chips in the game I was playing and decided that I was making over $50 that I would risk the profit in the tournament that is about to start. I entered and learned that you also pay a $5.00 fee for the dealers and in return you get extra chips and one optional re-buy at $25 for additional $1,500 chip to add to your tournament playing chips. I needed the extra $1,500 chips as I was running low when I was told about the re-buys. Never-the-less, there was approx. 60 players and I did qualify for the final table and placed 6th winning over $350. It was fun, taking approx. 3 hrs to play.

You will have no problem on live tables, since, you already have the experience on-line. Just be careful on the low limit tables. Lot of swimmers and people fishing. I like to play on the $4/$8 tables, sometimes $5/$10 because you will get more experience players, yet, those that don%26#39;t play offend.

Go on line and check the different hotels out. Click on casino; table games and see what comes out. Many hotels will advertise their poker room with games offered and tournament times.

Good luck,

The Luxor has lessons twice a day, with a 1/2 game following. It was a lot of fun, the dealers were great and answered all questions asked, whether they were about rules, betting, ettiquette, or whatever. It was a good way to get into the groove, I thought.

great! that sounds like exactly what I need. i%26#39;ll go online and look to see what casinos are offering these free lessons and games. thanks to everyone%26#39;s input.

Just don%26#39;t wear sunglasses when you play!!!!!

And whatever you do, DON';T introduce yourself as

Pokerface Durham

pokerface, don%26#39;t worry it will be fine. I played my first time in June and after 2 hands it was fine, the jitters went away, maybe it was the free drinks that helped. I played at the Flamingo and enjoyed the dealers. Hit a couple high hand jackpots.

This site will give you info and opinions on the poker rooms and also a list of daily tourneys with details about each one.
