Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire

How far are these from Vegas and in which direciton. We%26#39;ll be leaving LV after 2 days to head elsewhere. Would you take the time to see Red Rock or Valley of Fire? How much time would you allocate to these spots?

Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire

RRC is worth seeing but VoF is far superior and if you%26#39;ve only got time to do one it%26#39;s the one to see. It%26#39;s an hour%26#39;s drive from LV and give yourself 2-3 hours there.

Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire

Thanks! could you tell me which direction it VoF is from Vegas?

I think VOF is just Northeast and RRC is Southwest?

We did both in a few hours. Personnally I preferred Red Rock Canyon.

For VoF take I-15N then Rte 169.

Agree - Valley of Fire is far superior.

If you have a half day - take the circle route through Lake Mead National Recreational Area (you can also visit the Hoover Dam in the morning).

Leave Vegas on the 515, take the 166 north through Lake Mead (which turns into the 167) to the 169 which goes through the Valley of Fire. Then return to Vegas by going south on 15.

It%26#39;ll take 4-5 hours to do that loop with lots of stops for pictures etc.

Valley of Fire is far the better destination.

We went to Vegas first time in 2005. THought Red Rock was the best part of the trip (fountains 2nd, and all the stuff).

We revisited Vegas in DEC 2006 and went to Valley Of Fire. We both agreed it was 10x better than Red Rock. If you read the first paragraph above thats not taking anything away from Red Rocks.

Best part of VOF is all the faces and animals you ';see'; in the rocks. We saw tons of ghouls, bus size turtles, and even a 25ft tall penguin.

Take the trails,, thats the best part. And dont forget the camera!!!!! I took hours of video there and its so cool to relive that experience.

regards,

joncor

For me there is no comparison- VOF is far superior to RRC. It is farther away but well worth the visit. The scenery is truly outstanding and if you can hike on some of the trails, so much the better. I think of it as a must do visit for anyone who hasn%26#39;t been there. You can do VOF and RRC in the same day but once you have seen VOF, RRC is going to be a disappointment.
