LV newbie arrives in Aug

Hi all.

I%26#39;m in the fortunate position of bagging a trip to LV (from London) for a conference in August on the company bankroll and I%26#39;m really looking forward to it.

First few days in LV at the Bellagio (for work) then move to the Hilton Grand Vacations (B is too rich for my pocket) when my wife flys out to join me.

I%26#39;ve been to the US several times before. I have some questions.

-Tipping.

What is the $ for taxi%26#39;s and bellhops

What is the % rate for resturants %26amp; bars?

Do I tip the croupier at a table?

-Grand Canyon

I%26#39;d love to see this by plane/helicopter. Is this easily booked there or shall book in advance? Can anyway recommend a company?

-Shopping

Is LV cheap or overpriced? Any pointers, in particular for jewellary and watches?

-Shows

We plan to book shows on the day. Sensible or Insane? We are not that particular about any one show, but are there any we%26#39;d kick ourselves for not seeing/prebooking (Aug 15-19).

-Resturants

We love eating out, in particular Italian, French and other types of %26#39;fine dining%26#39; (we love the basic diner stuff too). I presume that reservations will be required for the better resturants? How far in advance, should i start ringing now or just wait until I get there?

Thanks for helping in advance. i hope these questions aren%26#39;t too obnoxious for you.

Jim that%26#39;s a lot of info you need. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll get replies but it may be an idea to break up your requests into seperate posts. One for shopping, one for shows etc. It will be easier for you to collate your replies this way.

Another thing you may find useful is the forum search. Some of your questions are asked on here a lot (tipping for example) and by looking at old posts you may get some answers that are useful in addition to replies to your own thread(s).

Thanks blagger Tipping %26amp; Grand Canyon posts searched for and found. Many thanks.

What is the $ for taxi%26#39;s and bellhops

20% for taxi if it%26#39;s good service, a few dollars per bag.

What is the % rate for resturants %26amp; bars?

20% or better for exception service

Do I tip the croupier at a table?

They depend on tips, if your playing Blackjack or Craps occasionally make a bet for them.

Is LV cheap or overpriced? Any pointers, in particular for jewellary and watches?

Overall I find LV to be probably one of the less expensive vacations one can take.

I find that I can buy jewelry and watches back home less expensive but I am from the US.

We plan to book shows on the day. Sensible or Insane? We are not that particular about any one show, but are there any we%26#39;d kick ourselves for not seeing/prebooking (Aug 15-19).

I woulden%26#39;t wait till the same day, some of the better shows are booked 3 months in advance.

As far as restaurants go, depending on which restaurant you should book in advance, many you can just walk in at certain times. In my many years going to LV I have walked in as many times as having reservations But I would suggest you make reservations. .

Jim, this link will answer almost all of the questions on your list.

-Tipping.

What is the $ for taxi%26#39;s and bellhops - $$2 per bag

What is the % rate for resturants %26amp; bars?- 15-25%

Do I tip the croupier at a table?-If you enjoyed

-Grand Canyon

I%26#39;d love to see this by plane/helicopter. Is this easily booked there or shall book in advance? Can anyway recommend a company? - many to choose and easy to book

-Shopping

Is LV cheap or overpriced? Any pointers, in particular for jewellary and watches?- Same as everywhere-CP Shops run from lower in to the best- Fashon Show Mall has all shops-there are 2 outlet places, but I find them overpriced.

-Shows

We plan to book shows on the day. Sensible or Insane? We are not that particular about any one show, but are there any we%26#39;d kick ourselves for not seeing/prebooking (Aug 15-19). - All depends on your taste. %26#39;O%26#39; is sold out on your dates and many of the production shows maybe sold out if you wait to purchase on the day you want to go- Some headlines are dark in the middle of AUg preparing for Labor day.

-Resturants

We love eating out, in particular Italian, French and other types of %26#39;fine dining%26#39; (we love the basic diner stuff too). I presume that reservations will be required for the better resturants? How far in advance, should i start ringing now or just wait until I get there? - All kinds of those in LV , majority do not require reservations unless they are located close to a big production show.
