';Searched'; comps for info - still have a question

I have searched comps to understand the process. I know to sign up for a card at the casino. And to check with players club before checking out. But - info I have read on this forum states : Go to a Casino Host to see if you have earned any comps; and, Go to the Players Club to see if you have earned cash back. Are they one and the same. And, if not, where do you find a Casino Host? Have I lost something in the translation??? Or, am I just not understanding the process?

There is so much info when you ';Search'; - and it is in no specific order....so at times a search can be difficult. But I know I can rely on getting good info on this forum - I%26#39;ve found most people to be very helpful.

';Searched'; comps for info - still have a question

I%26#39;ve never contacted a host because from my understanding it%26#39;s for higher rollers. I make sure I use my players club card at every casino because you never know when you%26#39;ll receive free or reduced rate offers and dining credits in the mail.

The distinction is between ';points'; and ';comps';. Pointsd are earned on slots and video poker. You can check your points balance at any machine at go to the Player%26#39;s Club to redeem them for cash or whatever else is available.

Comps, on the other hand, come from table game play and are awarded generally at the discretion of the casino host according to a loose formula based on how long you played and at what betting level. You could get a comped buffet or a discount on your hotel room. Any casino employee can call a casino host over to speak with you.

You can earn comps from slot play but for most players card programs, you would have to bet alot to receive anything over and above what your points would get you. It depends on the casino.

The players club can handle both comps and cashback for most players. If you want to see a host, you can ask for one there as well.

Unless you have a history of gambling 2000 = a day

Comps do not exist for the common man.

DONT chase comps. Cheaper to pay your way.

Thanks to all....info helps explain that subject to me. Since I won%26#39;t be in the high roller category when I get there - I%26#39;ll play for fun and be quietly amazed if I get something in return!!

I played blackjack late one evening @ Imperial Palace. I normally play $5 - $10 / hand but I had got lucky that night and won a fair amount. I played from about 11pm - 6am in the morning at an average of $50 / hand apparently (The drunker I got got the more my bet increased) and when I put my card in a slot machine the next morning to view my comps I had $250 to spend. Well I realised this at 12:30 after we had checked out to fly home, I had a horrendous hangover from 12 hours of drinking and 1 hour of sleep and 1 hour till we had to leave for the aiport for the flight home. Well we ate at the Burger bar, bought a couple of t-shirts, 20 or so pens, dvd anything with Vegas on it we bought it (I even still have the oven gloves :-)). I t was a shame I didn%26#39;t earn that on the first night as it would have taken care of loads of meals etc. whilst we were there.

When I first started going to Vegas and staying at MGM if you played the slots and earned 1,500 points I would get 3 days free (or comped) on my rooms and get 3 days free (or comped) for my next stay.

I don%26#39;t know if they do this anyone because I now gamble at all the casinos and don%26#39;t chase comps.

Just from my personal experience, I%26#39;ll share what I know about comps.

I don%26#39;t play table games, so can%26#39;t offer much info there. I play video poker. Comps are based on time played, money in. Now that doesn%26#39;t mean the cash you pulled from your pocket to put in the machine. It means all of the credits played. So if you play on $100 of your own money for several hours on .25 machine, you could easily rack up a lot of points.

Points and comps and different things. At MGM Properties, they don%26#39;t give cash back anymore, they give free play.

The Player%26#39;s card people can comp you anything from a free buffet to a free room, however host%26#39;s have more discretion. You do not have to be a high roller to visit a host. I certainly wasn%26#39;t when I got my first host. I have also been in the host%26#39;s office when many other %26#39;low roller%26#39;s'; have come in to inquire about comps.

It is easy to go in say ';I%26#39;ve enjoyed my stay here, wanted to stop in and see if you can rate my play, do I qualify for any comps';. They%26#39;ll let you know and then give you information on what it takes at that property to earn comps. Remember the lower the room rate, the easier it is to get a room comped.

Several years ago, my girlfriend and I stayed 2 nights at the Palms. We probably brought $800.00 between the two of us. We qualified to get both nights comped - however, we had booked our rooms through a third party and they could not comp our rooms because of that.

I think all properties are a little different and there a lot of variables that come into play. I would say though, that%26#39;s it%26#39;s perfectly alright to visit a host even if you%26#39;re not a high roller.

Charge everything to your room, so that there is something to comp if you qualify.

As everyone has already stated, don%26#39;t chase comps...
